Ph.D. Students

Ph.D. students are a core part of the Vassar Team. These students receive individualized, comprehensive training in research methods, design, and statistics. As many PhD students are a part of the DO/PhD program, a special emphasis is placed on pairing PhD students with attending physicians and residents in the student’s clinical area of interest. It is, therefore, no surprise that Dr. Vassar’s Ph.D. students function as the backbone of the Vassar Team, and they routinely co-lead research project teams, write manuscripts for publication, participate in grant submissions, conduct media interviews, teach medical student team members about clinical trial design and systematic review methodology, and acquaint new team members with our workflow and processes.

Dr. Vassar firmly believes in equipping future leaders and carefully identifies opportunities for leadership throughout each PhD student’s training. Dr. Vassar’s Ph.D. students become highly accomplished individuals — both in scholarly activity and interpersonal dynamics — readily equipped to become faculty at academic medical centers and universities.
